Smile of the Day

Even on the most "meh" of days any random picture of a cute animal can make me smile. What is it about cute, furry little creatures that brings out the gooiness and best in people? Their innocence and funny peculiarities make them sweet and no matter how blah I feel, I'm instantly transformed to a place of momentary joy. 

How can you look at these and not smile? Try~ I dare you!

Smile of the Day- Paprika

On Sunday I fell in love. Luckily this is not with a boy who will break my heart. My girlfriends and I were waiting for a table for brunch in Yaletown and out front of the restaurant three dogs waited patiently for their owner to finish his Benedict. My heart was gone. I have wanted a dog for years but both my apartment building and lifestyle (and pocketbook) don't allow for it yet. Still, whenever I see a dog I adore I write down the name of the breed for my "One Day" file. Pomeranian? Check!

Paprika had me right away. She was this little pile of golden fluff and nothing more. Her bark (and she only did so when her mom came to collect her) was the cutest one I've ever heard. She was so sweet and lovable (and hilariously smaller than Lulu). I wish I could have scooped her up and taken her home right then. But "One Day" will have to do.

Smile of the Day- Lulu Bear

I spotted this original painting on Etsy and fell into gooey love with it! Now, I kind of refuse to buy it, because I just can't become that crazy cat lady who has pictures and figurines of the animal all over her apartment (even though sometimes the adorableness is overwhelming and the temptation is definitely there). But I can admire from afar can't I? This slice of cuteness makes me think of what Lulu would look like as a spunky baby kitten (which I never got to see as I just adopted her in January and she is 3 years old).

I'm not really into scouting paparazzi photos but these caught my eye today for the sweet and truly hilarious expressions on these little faces! Shiloh and Zahara are sooooo cute, how can you not smile? Plus, the way they are mugging for the cameras makes me think they are very well adjusted little girls! Love them! 

PS- Angelina looks as stunning as ever, even just taking her kids to dance class! I love long dresses!

I came across this photo the other day and had immediate warm and fuzzy feelings. Apparently at one time a young Audrey Hepburn had a baby deer as a pet, who took naps and trips to the grocery store with her! Isn't this the cutest thing in the world? I would like to bring one home to make a sister for Lulu!

Smile of the Day~ Puppy Love

This achingly sweet face made my weekend! Erika and I were wandering through her neighbourhood on the way to caffeinate ourselves when we met 8 week old Golden Doodle, Lily. Apparently her owner cannot walk her half a block without being stopped and his puppy ogled! No sooner did we continue on our way up the block when (sure enough) Lily's next admirer stopped to pet her. How can you not... look at that face? Ohhhhhh, I want a puppy! 

Today's Smile

Yesterday I had a wonderfully girly day with my friend Erika. After brunch at Pastis we made our way back into my neighbourhood to head to our visit at Blo (more on that later). We parked a few blocks away (darn you, Vancouver, and your ridiculous permit system, I shake my fist at you!) and as we were meandering back to Hemlock Street we could see people in groups standing all around the place and hear the most strange and desperate of wails just down the block. As we hesitantly approached we could see a mama raccoon (yes, in broad daylight) trying in vain to get her two frightened babies to cross the road. The babies were loath to cooperate and were hiding under cars and darting back into bushes to hide. Mama Raccoon was crying loudly (easily one of the most heart wrenching sounds I have ever heard), trying again and again to corral her terrified babies to safety and, inevitably, sleep. Everyone was mesmerized, watching this vision of nature in the middle of the city. I was terrified the little family would be confronted with the cars whizzing through the neighbourhood and had dialled 411 to get through to the SPCA when Mama picked up one baby in her mouth and basically shunted the other baby across the street and into a thicket of bushes where, assumedly, their den awaited them. Their cries quickly quietened and the clumps of fascinated bystanders began to dissipate. Erika and I moved on as well, but deeply touched by this sweet familial tableau in an otherwise normal day. To see the sweetness of these beautiful creatures still brings a smile to my face today.
